Short-Term Running Goals:

In the next 2 years I'd like to complete three 50 milers and a hundred miler before I turn 40.  I'd like to break 5 hour marathon and then a 4:45 marathon and then keep improving.  I’m starting to think I’ll hit 100 miles before I see a sub 5 hour marathon…..Geez.

Fifty miler #1:  2008 JFK 50  13:29:53

#2 Hearland 50  13:51 (got lost had to find road back)

#Bethel Hill Moonlight Boogie  June 12, 2010...very soon

Two down....one more to go!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would like to run 100 miles.

Personal:

I've got two wonderful kids who are 6 and 8.  I want to pass on the joy of running.

6:45 AM.  Temps at end of run 84.

This was an odd run.  No one from my normal Saturday group showed up.  Weird.  I must have missed the memo.  So I did 19 miles on my own.  I had 16 on the sched for today and 8 for tomorrow.  My original thought was just to do all the mileage and take tomorrow off.  I just got tired (and hot) after 19 and called it a day.

notice the lack of miles today??  I can't continue to train for a 100 miler if I don't start adding in a Sunday long run to compliment the Saturday long run

I'm going to start skipping Wed runs so that I can do 2 long runs on the weekends

5:30 AM - I read the weather report last night that highs today would be in the 90s so I opted for another early AM run.  I've been noticing that I'm now enjoying the morning runs nows.  The crisp air is such a blessing from the mid day heat.

For anyone in or around middle GA this summer I'd like to invite you to come and join us for the Make it by Midnight Marathon and Half marathon.  If nothing else, read the waiver on the race application. www.macontracks.org/race-pdfs/2010-07-17-MakeItByMidnight.pdf

Quick run in the morn, church, ride ATVs, kid bumps head, end up in ER.  No evening run.

My daughter is OK.  Just a very small bump to show for it.

Evening run tonight. After the morning rus it almost seems odd now to run at night. There are more cars driving by, more bugs, more heat, and more humidity. I think I'm converting to a morning runner. I've got a marathon this weekend that my body is very much unprepared for. The race is called the twisted ankle marathon. I've got my miles up to 19 which would surfice for a marathon - if only barely.

This is the elevation chart of this race - yikes! It seemed like a good idea when I signed up for it!  :)

OK, I chickened out.  I only had 19 miles under my belt as my longest long run and that course is tough.  I ran it 2 years ago and know that I'd kill myself or DNF.  So kids and I went up and spent the weekend volunteering at the race instead.

Today however, I felt compelled to keep moving forward with my training that seems to have slacked.  Dang.  I was shooting for 22 miles but called it a day just after 20.  I ran out of drink and it was 88 degrees.  I'm going to shoot for 25 this weekend.

PM run.  There seems to be a 20-25 degree difference between AM running and PM running.

I had an early start this morning so most of my miles were in sub 80 degree weather.  My garmin tells me that post 80 degrees adds time to my mileage.  My Saturday group ran 10 of these miles with me.  Thank goodness.  I like to run but some days the long runs can get so monotonous if I do them by myself.

On a more personal note, I had to use the bathroom so badly that I actually went into a Porto potty on a construction site.  I'm not sure but I think that nasty experience (and smell) shorten my life span by 6 weeks.  Yuck!

I just had a beautiful, awsome, amazing, unscheduled fun run.  There was nothing spectacular happening, same neighborhood, 77 degrees, 70% humidity, 8:45 PM, and lots of gnats.   Today things just seemed to click and I was nearly 45 sec per mile faster than my regular mid-week runs.

I wish more runs could be like this!
