I've been off line for a while and I've not posted.  Thanks Nevels, Burt, and KP for dropping me a comment on my last post.

I've been trying to do 30 miles a week.  I ran the Mystery Mountain Marathon...well actually the 12 miler.  Took a very nice spill and took the best blood award. I guess if you keep at it then eventually you do win something. :)

I helped a 19 y/o finish her first marathon. Her mom is a running buddy of mine.  She was a bit undertrained....longest run pre-race 15 miles.  We walked the last 4ish miles.  The next day I did a 50K put on by the Darkside Running Club.  It was a really great race.

I was volunteered/told (volun-told?) that I was to help co-RD the Bartram Forest 50k/26.2 miler which is held each year the Sat after Thanksgiving.  If you are every in middle GA this time of year they please come run with us.  The price is cheap $25 pre-reg and there is more food than you can imagine....fresh hot grill cheese, veggie soup, gumbo, pretzels, m&m, chips, home made baked goods, you get the point.  You also got a choice of race bags to boot.  wintertrailrun.net

I'm attempting my first 100 miler this weekend.  The race is the Bartrams 100.  It is also the exact same race course as the Bartram 50K held 2 weeks ago.  Several of the folks from my race above will be at this race as well.  I wish I felt more ready for this run.  There is a 100K option if I whimp out at the 62 mile mark.  I've been told the first 50 you run with your legs and the last 50 you run with your mind.  Is that a true statement Nevels??  My training has been less than desired for this race.  My hubby and I have done more traveling for work than planned for when my running sched was created.  I'm nervous as heck....and that is an understatement!

Originally i had planned to have pacers and since this race is just an hour from my house was able to line up running partners into different time slots.  Then things happen.  Someone got a girlfriend and will be traveling w/her.  Someone else got injured and is sidelined....you get the picture.   AAAGH!  I would be having a complete panic attack except I have found that being friends with hard-core runners does indeed have benefits.  My old Galloway running coach from VA will be flying in on Friday and will be running with me....the entire way!!  Talk about being a really good friend.

So in a nutshell, I've run some, trained some, and will be attempting something way more difficult and over my head than I should....but I'll try anyway.

Side note: I've already informed my boss that I will be taking a day off on Monday. :)

My race was a series of unfortunate events.  I had a friend (much stronger runner) come out and join me.  He neglected to mention he was nursing a hamstring injury.  Around mile 22ish he asked if we could stop and walk.  I didn't know he meant the rest of the way.  I was really upset but kept it to myself.

My friend took about 25 min each loop to tend to his feet.  We were going so much slower than expected that I really was exceptionally upset. (Understatement).  At 5:30ish the sun went down and we were at the station loading up on food.  I had heard a participant say she lost her glasses so I went over to ask where on the trail she might thing they were.  I got back and couldn't find my partner.  So I figured he was in the rest room.  Nope.  He took back off on the trail.  90 min later he shows back up.  side note: I'm a big chicken and really don't like being on a trail in the pitch black alone.  I was more upset then I've ever been in years.  Since there was 32 hours to do this race in I had heard some 100K folks say they were going to a hotel room, catching some zzzzs and returning the next morning.  My chance of 100 mile was shot.  My attitude was in the crapper and I really didn't feel like being with my friend any longer.  Actually I would be very embarrassed if I shared my exact thoughts at that moment as there would be more swear words than not.

Next day I get back to the race and I have not motivation to even finish. The RD and my friend literal force me back on the trail and I finish the last 28 miles with my friend - walking.  I believe my finish time for a 100k was 31:55 ish. What a stinky finish.  That looks like a 5K finish time not a 100K finish time.

Later I did find out that my friend ripped off his toenail early on in the race.  Honestly, I wish he would have said to go on without him or drop out.  I really like my buddy and we've been really good friends for over 6 years.  That said, (being totally selfish) he was a total anchor this race. I wasn't really thinking I could finish up a whole 100 miles but I did think it was possible to reach the 75 mile mark.  That was my real goal.  Mostly I'm disappointed on how this turned out.  I've been waiting for this weekend for 3 years and it was awful....really awful.  Dang.

Well, on the plus side, it was a PR. :)  I think it will be a very easy PR to beat when I finally get the urge to do this once again....this time alone.  My friend can be invited to be my crew if he'd like but no more. :)

On a different note, I got to watch and run a few miles with a 100 miler participant in his last 3 miles.  Man, he looked like crap!  I guess that is what I would have looked like also.  Well the good news is that there is always next year!

Free half marathon!

No running today but I wanted to pass along a free race for those close by. The Columbus Road Runners are holding their annual free half marathon in January.  Here is the website: http://estartline.com/Search/event.aspx?event=0338ddf8-4aec-425d-9365-f10e858468ba.aspx

Summary:

5th Annual Red Nose Half Marathon Cost: FREE!!! Certified Course

Event Details:

This is the 5th annual Red Nose Half Marathon.  There will not be a full marathon this year so we can focus on the half marathon race.  The race is still free and but support like one of those high prices events.  The event will once again start in downtown Columbus, GA and will be run on a USATF Certified Course.  Hopefully it will not be as cold as last year but come out even if it is.  We had a great time last year.

Quick 4.5 miles at 5AM.  I would gripe about how cold it was but it was still warmer than the highs than most places around the country.

This was my first run since the race.  My Tuesday morning partner and I decided to do the “easy” hill route.  It was just good to get out moving on the street again. Nothing spectacular to report other than I had good company.  I guess anytime you can have someone agree to run with you at 5:00 AM you have good company.

If I don't post before Saturday, Merry Christmas folks!
