We all decided to start on the eight o'clock hour instead of the six as some of the runners had a late evening.  Our group leader seems to have had an agenda as we busted our bums during this run.....or perhaps the holiday fluff I've put on has made the effort seem greater.  I'm not going to look at the scale for another week so I'll only guess it is the latter.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy new years!

I had a very special treat today.  My son ran with me .85 miles.  We were  hoping to reach the 1 mile mark but I'm still happy his 6 year old legs would come out with me.  He seems to have 2 speeds.  Very fast/full throttle and exhaustion.  We did a 30/30 second walk/run ratio.  On his run he would do a 8-8:15 min mile pace.  On the walk break he would suck in all the air his little lungs could handle.

Noah got so excited to run with Mom that he drew a Garmin on his arm to be like Mom.

Next my 8 year old daughter joined me for the next round.  Again we did a 30/30 walk/run ratio.  Madi is my companion and is always a joy to run (or walk) with.  She has the gift of being chatty and keeps the conversation and her little legs moving along at a good clip.  She and I finished our run about the 1.6 mile mark.

Today is the standing Tuesday 5 miles at 5AM...well actually we start at 5:15....we do need to sleep in a bit. ;0)

The weather hung at the 35 degree mark but with no wind it actually felt good and I realized that I was overdressed and was sweating like it was summer.  The irony of that kept me amused...of course it takes very little to amuse me when I'm sleep walking like this.  Actually I had a song (slightly revised) playing in my head.  "I can run for miles and miles, I can run for miles and miles and miles and miles."

If I were really motivated I'd get up tomorrow and do a repeat performance.  That said, I know there is no one waiting for me and the weather man says it will be raining in the morning.  Cold and wet?  I think I might want to invest in a tread mill.

It was another 5 at 5.  This time solo.  I find it is harder to get up and run at 5AM when there is no one expecting you to show up.

We are having unexpectantly beautiful weather right now.  This mornings run was a bit foggy but temps were in the mid to upper 40's.

Thanks for the comment Burt.  I normally write these at work but someone got canned earlier this year for his internet usage so I've not been blogging.  I'll have to find more time to keep this going.

I joined a contest called "Healthier Me" this month.  You get points for exercising, eating right, drinking water, getting enough sleep, and weight loss.  I needed a half decent reason to stay motivated as I've got no races in my immediate future.  The idea of pocketing $50 for going out on my morning runs seems like a good enough reason.  The side benefit of this is the food log I have to maintain.  I never knew what a junk food junkie I was until now.

On another note, the Make It By Midnight Marathon just sold out in under 30 days.  This is our 4th annual run.  Nevels currently holds the course record at this race.  I wonder how long it will take before anyone comes close to touching his finishing time.  We upped the runner limit to 125 this year and it never fails to amaze me how many people will travel to run in the GA summer sun.  It must be the lure of earning a tiara.

Today's run was 5 miles.  I was hoping for 6 but this healthier eating has caused me to run to the bathroom more than normal.  I wonder how long it takes to adjust to a higher fiber diet.

Tomorrow is my 5 at 5 hill runner with my 68 y/o running partner.  Sadly, he runs me into the ground every Tuesday.  I'm hoping to keep up tomorrow.  Sad that someone 30 yrs my senior can kick my bum on a weekly basis.  Luckily I lost my pride a long time ago.

Happy running!

Hey, you're welcome :)

Don't get canned! If you do, maybe Nevels can get you a job. I hope you win that $50!

Tuesdays are a standing 5 miles of hills at 5AM.  My partner was a little bit late this morning and I was ready to drive back home (only partially disappointed).  We run in some areas that isn't the best place for a single female to run so I was ready to return home and do a few miles in my own neighborhood.  Luckily just as I was giving up on him **poof** there he was.

We had a great morning with cool 55 degree temps.  The sky was clear and stars/moon were bright. I think he has taken it upon himself to make me a faster runner...even if it kills me.  Today we finished our run averaging a 30 second per mile faster than last week.  I was thankful that I didn't embarrass myself today. :)

I have signed up for the tough mudder race. http://toughmudder.com/  It looks like the muddy buddy or warrior dash on steriods.  At present, I'm too slow and too weak to even finish this race.  So although there are marathons on my schedule and perhaps even an ultra my goal from now until Feb (Atlanta race) is to get in shape to not embarrass myself while attempting this race.  I'm signed up with some speedy gentlemen (they needed one more to get discount) and they won't hold it against me for being slow....but my pride will.  Soooooooo let the training begin.

Today my schedule was suppose to have more mileage than 7.5 miles.  Heat/humidity and being fresh off vacation made me throw in the towel sooner than I wanted.   I've got so far to go.

I will become acquainted with P90X and actually make it past the first week.  I will even try to keep my B&M down to a minimum.  Most importantly, I'm going to try and log my workouts so I can see whether or not I'm improving.

Now that I'm done I feel like a limp noodle.  The good news is that it will only get better.

Wow, now I can own 2 sets of videos that kick my bottom. How is it possible that a grown can be so intimidated by a pack of DVDs?

Be afraid Deborah. Be very afraid. LOL!

Did you purchase P90X or are you borrowing it from a friend?

5AM, 80 degrees, 95+% humidity.  Holy cow, this was a hard run.  The temp wasn't bad but I just struggled under the weight of all that humidity.

8:30PM, 91 degrees, 85% humidity.  I just had the best run in at least 6 weeks.  The temps were hot but it didn't seem as awful as it was yesterday.  This is one of those run where I felt I could have kept going for another hour or two.  I hope to have more runs like this in my future.

Great job. I rarely feel like I could keep going. Especially after running for an hour already. Looks like you are getting a lot of miles in. I've got 6 to do tomorrow (Friday), hope I feel like you did on this run.

I went out for a quick run after I finally got the kids to bed this evening around 8:45.  The run was more difficult than I would have thought.  The temps were the standard lower 90's but the humidity seemed higher than normal.

I would like to get 25 miles in this week so I need to get busy running both tomorrow and Sat.

Our running group meets at 6AM every Saturday.  I managed an 11.3 mile run.  It was a bit slow as we had some new folks and wanted to have them feel comfortable and not alone.  The side benefit was the fact we didn't overheat from the 80 degree temps and awful humidity.

goal of 25 miles this week is reached.

Even at 5:45AM it is still stank hot!

On a more positive note, there are 2 ladies (faster than me) that I see out in the morning when I run.  I finally got a chance to catch up with them (they were done and standing at the driveway).  I don't have aspirations of running with them but I do enjoy meeting other runners.  I always feel a bit safer running in the dark early morning because I know these ladies are also out there an close by. (small neighborhood).

The humidity was below 90% this morning.  We ran about 90 seconds per mile faster than our normal summer pace.  I was trying to keep up with a faster running friend.  I was noticing that I was sucking wind as usual but due to the lack of humidity it didn't seem to feel as awful as it normally does.

How is your running going?

From Burt on Sat, Sep 29, 2012 at 11:14:58 from 72.223.86.148

It's only been 13 months since you posted. How can you forget?? LOL! My running sucks. This year between my work schedule, the heat, and all my stupid injuries, I don't even think I've run 200 miles.

From Little Engine That Could on Sat, Sep 29, 2012 at 15:12:04 from 174.64.141.195

I can't say I've been doing much either. I went into a couple of ultras under trained and got my bottom kicked all over the place.

It is a good thing I check my athletic pride in a long time ago as each of those races were very humbling. It still hurts being beat by a one legged lady.
