I a good time at the Callaway Gardens half marathon this morning, despite the dreary weather. It was quite cold and gray, but at least it wasn't raining. The course was very pretty (quiet and peaceful which I much prefer) and I can only imagine how nice it would be on a sunny day. There were more hills than I expected, and I felt sorry for the full marathoners as I chugged uphill knowing that they were going to have to tackle those same hills again on their second loop around. It was a nice sized race, not crowded but always people in sight. They started on time and had adequate aid stations.
I was talking to a runner during the half and found out that Jeff Galloway's wife was running the marathon. She did a 30/30 ratio - 30 sec run/30 sec walk.  She finished in a better time than I ever have.

My goal for this run today was to have a negative split.  After a sub freezing weekend the temps this evening was a balmy  48 degrees.  Very nice.

Goal for tomorrow....run a trail and have fun!

Due to unbelievably beautiful weather I decided to take a quick 3 mile trail run before returning to work from a doc appointment.

The trail is a bit wet from yesterdays rain and had the smell of musty wet leaves.  The birds were chattering up a storm and squirrels/chipmunks were fleeing from the path.  Honestly, I could have spent all morning and afternoon out there running that trail, jumping puddles, and stomping in mud.  There is just something about being on this trail that brings out my inner child.

I'm going to try and get back there next week.

Four of us took off this morning to do our long run on the hilly route.  We started off around 6 AM. The weather started out brisk, wet, and windy.  The rain seemed to blow in our face no matter what direction we ran or what turn we took.  Somewhere around 7:30 the rain stopped and the sky started clearing out.  We were blessed by the beautiful sun rising and turning the sky and clouds different shades of pink, purple, and orange.  Under clear skies we loop back around and headed back to the parking lot.

We finished up our mileage and had post run celebration at Dunkin Donuts.  MMMMMM, doooooughnut (said in a Homer Simpson voice).
